Novel writing might be as the author describes it-which is likely why I am not a novelist! I am impatient. The only writing I do is creative, blogging and poetry and none of it is much work for me. It’s more like 95% inspiration 5% brute force in my case. But that’s why I stick to the short stuff! My inspirations are never Tolstoy length novels, they’re more of the introduction and preface length! LOL If I ever write something of any length it’s going to be my memoir, as I’ve had a rather “colourful” life
Hmm – colourful? I look forward to reading the memoir. I don’t often find it brute force really, but thought it was an interesting post.
When I’m settled down and writing, it dribbles out across the page with no trouble. the trouble comes when I begin editing and realise that a load of it has to go because it’s rubbish!!
Haha, I’ll keep you posted!
Yes, editing is a chore when there’s a word count or length to be met.
Editing is a chore full stop. I look at my stuff and wince and know it needs editing even if there is no word count involved.
LOL, true. However, when there’s a word count or length limitation I sometimes find that overly restrictive. It makes me have to be very concise!
I tend to write a bit skinny anyway, so the word count isn’t my problem. Making sense however – that’s a whole other story!
LOL
