The Next Big Thing

Is this house haunted?

Is this house haunted? No, and it’s not that sort of book!

The lovely Kathils at My Random Muse has tagged me in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop, which is about as intriguing a thing as I’ve come across thus far on here. I am very honoured to be chosen by her to discuss my current Work in Progress. That’s also pretty intriguing, as you’ve probably gathered I have one or two of those about, of varying ages and kinds.

Some of you may know that high on the list at the moment is this one, so I will answer the questions as follows:

What is the working title of your book?  Clean Death

Where did the idea come from for the book?  From the old Head and Shoulders Ad where they said if you used it your dandruff would go away – stop using it and your dandruff would come back. I thought it would be interesting if a manufacturer could actually make you addicted to some of the products you use every day: like your shampoo, your moisturiser or your deodorant.

What genre does your book fall under?  Definitely Fantasy Suspense. Some people may even say, Horror.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?  400 year old witch who is frightened to die uses modern science with old fashioned sorcery to further his cause.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?  I’m not really a movie buff, so this is virtually impossible for me to answer. OK, let’s go really over the top: Sean Bean as my witch (yes, the witch is a man), Nicole Kidman as Gina, Kenneth Branagh as Michael, George Clooney as Simon. There: a box office hit already! I need a young Gina too, but I can’t think of any child actresses now that Emma Watson is all grown up.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?  No idea. Been out a couple of times to an agent, under this title, but not in this format. Depends on how I feel when it’s finished.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?  About six months. But the re-write is taking forever, because I am changing the Main Character and the Point of View as well as some of the action.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?  Heavens, this is hard. How about a modern day Turn of the Screw mixed up Game of Thrones and The Shining with a bit of Snow White and Rosemary’s Baby thrown in? Mwahahahah! That should keep you guessing!

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?  What if you discovered something you had invented was killing people and when you tried to stop it, the company you worked for turned on you? What if your DNA could be used as a way to target you specifically, even from miles away? What would you do to survive?

So, same questions go to the Nominees for the Blog Hop, which are, in no particular order:

  1. Congratulations! See, I am not the only one you thinks you are very talented, gifted and special!! I know how to armor vehicles but know nothing about writing! That is a special gift!

  2. What an interesting premise! Good luck with the next step. Sounds like a great read. 🙂

  3. I routinely interview myself… it’s WAY easier! 🙂 Good luck. Keep writing!
